Some info about Top Fans

The Top Fans program has been added to the site as a way to help members interact with anyone they like on the site and earn benefits while doing it.

By bidding points on members you like, you'll stand out not only to them, but receive added visibility across the site.

Top Fan benefits:

Standard members have the ability to gain free features, like viewing profiles, based on ranking.

i. Rank #1 unlocks all abilities on the table below
ii. Rank #2-10 unlocks all benefits except Contacting, messaging, flirting, or sending friend request

While Gold members already enjoy full access to all features on the site, they can also benefit by receiving added visibility to the members they like as well as more visibility across the site. This is especially useful for male members who want to stand out, especially when women get tons of emails every day. Gold members who rank in the top 10 will receive:

i. Top Fan Notifications
ii. Top Fans Profile Badge
iii. Profile Fan list/Leaderboard Visibility

The program is available to member's of all levels. You can opt out if you don't want to participate.

Daily Login Rewards

Members can earn rewards for logging into the site daily. Simply log on once every 24 hours for a maximum value of 35 points per day.

First-Time Bidder Rewards

Users will be rewarded points for making the first-time bid on a member profile. You can receive points for first-time bids a maximum of 3 times per day.

For a complete look at information and rules, please visit URL: http://AdultFriendFinder.com=TOP_FANS_PROGRAM

So let us know your thoughts! Have you played yet, or do you plan on playing Top Fans? Are there any problems you're experiencing while trying to play? Your feedback is always appreciated.

Thanks, everyone!

I am really not a big fan of this feature. I think the site should have asked us what we wanted before rolling it out.. Have a look at a few bloggers who are running some surveys now .. not too good! hugs V

I can't understand why you guys waste precious programming resources on stuff like this. There are other things that could be done here that would make this site better.

Thank you for the information. I had mine setting through my Privacy Preference on this Top Fan Game checked not to participate on the first day I saw it. Just don't want to be in any kind of drama.

How is this any different than the old MySpace "buy your friends" game? Look where THAT site ended up? We don't need games to make this site fun, we need a site that we can count on being able to log into first!

How about investing resources into making the site more accessible and FIX THE FACT THAT MY BLOG IS NO LONGER LISTED in the list of blogs by location!! Is this related to my opting out of the TopFan game? I'm not the only one.

Popularity contests are for the childish and those still in high school. This is just another means of treating women as meat being rated by the men. No thanks. Not interested in the least.

tilly summed it up well. The majority of us are here for social interaction either online or off site with people we've met through here. There are those here strictly for attention (which they are entitled to) who may like "popularity" games, but the majority of us would much rather every effort be made to make this site's operation reliable for it's users. As a long time member, I have learned to accept the fact that there are inconsistencies in how the chatrooms work...you never know when they will or won't, the email system would be much better if formatted like most others (yahoo, gmail, outlook) and blogs are categorized to promote a select few with so many others impossible to follow. I seldom IM or cam, but here constant complaints from those who do. Before adding new features, why not make the ones that are already being used, more user friendly....for all the friendly users of this site.

The info is great, but I agree.... it's not something I'm going to use and time, money and effort would be put to better use in other areas (formerly listed)

If I didn't know bettter, I'd think you were marketing this site to 12 year olds.

I left that stuff behind, in grammar school. Stupid waste of time and energy that could be spent fixing things that don't work on this site - like spellcheck.

Check out my profile or and become a "watcher" of my blog FMAOPLS,to learn more about me, and for intelligent, lively, smartassy and fun discussion, with a little irreverence thrown in. "Like" or comment on my photos, and I promise I'll add more. Thanks.

Succinctly, lots of the men will love it; lost of teh women will not/

Me personally? I turned it off on my profile as soon as I became aware of it. One part is that when I found out the top three ugly mugs I saw on my profile were all men I had written to me before who I said no to. A couple of them were rough looking characters who I would have been ashamed to to have anyone see on my profile page.

Also, and a Black American, anything involving someone bidding on me, even if it's for access, makes me a bit queasy.

From a business POV, it's a great way to prompt Standard male members to either participate in blogs and groups or spend money because those are the primary ways to earn points.

This is what the social scientist part of me says.....

Folks who regularly blog and participate in the groups here are generally not going to like this. Compared to that level of interaction and engagement, this is pretty thin.

People who actively cultivate a high profile on this site will enjoy it.

2 Thoughts:

1. Can people who don't fit your Cupid settings become fans? I ask this because if gay and bi men start becoming and of straight men, I promise you some of these straight men will flip the freak out..
2. I'm waiting for the first man to go ballistic because he spent thousands of points to get access to a particular member and she still ignores him or turns him down.

So I really don't like this but if I were doing it I would do it as a short term campaign, something for the summer, not as a permanent thing.

Aryana,

Thanks hon. I was trying to find the intel/info on Top Fan to write a blog about it.

I may be in the minority but when I first heard of this from Andrew I thought of it as a way for standard and all members to interact with one another if, IF they choose to engage in the game which can be easily turned off. I looked at it as a way to get members to interact and perhaps spend more time on the site.

Everyone has a choice to be involved or turn it off.

Thanks & Happy Tues Hugss,

Ana6

Why everyone has to make it a popularity contest or childish game is beyond me. You say you like things SIMPLE yet make it something more complicated than it probably was meant to even be. Funny. It is something "new" like many things they introduce can be and how most complain at every - new - thing. I feel it's something that can be fun --- another way to "flirt" get points.. give points.. show love -- "play" in the moments we have with those we are close to. Is it something really to complain about? Just what would make you all happy?? I cannot recall any new feature the majority has ever liked. Large images, none of it. All complaints. Always. Why not try just for once to focus on ANY positive. I suppose that is a childish thing to do.. I love being childish, happy.. seeing the miraculous vs bitter.. negativity. To each his own.

Thanks for all your efforts to bring some fun.. something new to us. I do enjoy the the things you come up with --- even with all the bugs. It keeps it all interesting. Almost seems to be a life of it's own.

TOP FANS PROGRAM...I so do NOT like this idea.

It states clearly in the 'what is this' section...

****As a Top Fan, you get to show up in your favorite member’s profile, Top Fan list****

I DO NOT WANT ANYONE SHOWING UP ON MY PROFILE ESPECIALLY WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!!!!

I cannot say that enough.

****You will compete with other members to get on the top of the list.****

This is just another way for people to fight with each other to be top billing, be seen the most, and it will be the same people over and over and over and is a giant popularity contest.

****Appear on your favorite member’s Top Fans Activity Feed
Top #1-10 Top Fans appear in their favorite member's activity feed with a highlighted profile for added visibility when interacting. Interactions include login activity, status updates, photo updates, and video updates, etc.****

I AM NOT HERE TO HAVE MY PROFILE USED BY ANOTHER IN MY ACTIVITY FEED FOR THEM TO BE SEEN!!!

I have turned OFF my activity feed because I don't want MY goings on posted so why the h*ll would I post for another person??? I DO NOT WANT THIS!!

****Appear on your favorite member’s profile Fanlist for additional exposure
Top fans will appear on their favorite member’s fanlist for added visibility. Users with the most points received or spent can also appear on the global leaderboard for even more visibility.****

I repeat.. I AM NOT HERE TO PROMOTE OTHER PEOPLE WITH MY PROFILE!! If someone does this I have no say so as to them being on MY profile. IT IS MY PROFILE NOT THEIRS!!

The ONLY redeeming factor here.....YOU CAN OPT OUT...

****What if I don't want to participate in Top Fans? You can choose to not participate in Top Fans by not placing bids on other members. If you would like to opt out of the game completely, select 'Opt Out' under the Privacy Settings for the Top Fans feature. *****

Nothing was sent out about this, I found it by accident today. I am wondering how many people other than me do NOT know that they are going to be pimped out by anyone willing to pay some points to get seen on the site??? I am not against earning things here on the site i.e. viewing rights, points, writing emails etc... BUT DO NOT USE ME TO DO THIS. I thought the kudos was a bad idea and I thought the idea of letting people write without any permission by me on my profile to say how a date went was a bad idea, and I also thought that having people 'vote' who had great profiles (which included negatively voting on profiles) was a bad idea. You are causing nothing more than a giant problem with people now acting like school children to be the TOP DOG again as it was with the "most popular members" list and the "most popular blogger" crap. THIS IS A BAD IDEA and if you are going to do it then you should DEFINITELY let the people know they can OPT OUT of having people squat on their profiles to promote themselves.
Done for now on this rant...

    Quoting community:
There are lots of members participating in Top Fans, but if you don't see any benefit in it for you, you may easily opt out of taking part completely.

    To opt out:
Select 'Opt Out' under the Privacy Settings (go to: My Stuff>My Account>Privacy Settings) for the Top Fans feature.

    -or-

You can decide to not display your Top Fans' activity or Top Fans' rankings on your profile by going to your Notification Options (go to: My Stuff>My Account>Notification Options).

As for blogs disappearing after opting out, I'm going to create a bug ticket and send it over to developers to look into it. I'll post an update here with more information once I have it.
Hiya McYana (and Team), how the hell are ye m'dear(s)? Hope all good.

I'm sure this Top Fan thing must be causing you no end of grief, and without wishing to compound it, I do feel the need to add my voice to the dissenters here, though not necessarily with regard to object of the game, more with regard to the problems it seems to have brought with it.

I completely understand the need to introduce new features, update things, maintain a fresh appearance to encourage new members and subscriptions, and like it or not, the Top Fan game is a function of that, I've no complaints with the principle.

However, in this particular instance, Top Fan also seems to have brought with it some new Top Glitches. It seems that anyone who opts out disappears from blog lists. For example, Tilly, Angus and ComfyShoes are no where to be seen on the UK lists. Some of us use the location list to keep up with blogs rather than add to an already long watch list.

I suppose the effect of these glitches is that it adds to ill-feeling towards the original premise of the Top Fan game and pushes yet more good people away from the community.

So, having said all that, my questions are

- are the techies trying to resolve the glitches?
- are your team taking on board the animosity towards the game, bearing in mind that it's impossible to opt out without other unfavourable consequences?

Ta for yer time, hope ye're enjoying the holiday, happy 4th July!

Hello

I believe this has been looked into and the issue with missing from the blog list is NOT related to opting out of the game. In the group " A F F is listening. " this was covered in the most recent thread.

Hope this helps,

I agree. If someone doesn't match Cupid setting, you shouldn't have the option to add someone as a fan, especially when it comes to the basics (sexual preference). Common sense aint common.

Top fans? for Men? is NOT WORKING! , after all this time, I've contributed a great deal of points to Women for 1st time and up-bid, I do get my reward points for it but Never once not even 1 Woman or Couple will put any points or top fan me and there's nothing wrong with my profile.

To make matters worse, I only have 1 top fan and it's a Man, as flattering as this is, it's not what I'm looking for, I have had to hide my top fans or 1 fan rather from my profile all together it's horribly embarrassing and unfair with no cupid screening or way to delete or hide single fans from profile,......it's sadly another Bad Idea from AdultFriendFinder-friendfinder inc, it's the same as usual
